About Sports-Related Injuries

Chiropractic is a health care approach that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure, primarily the spine and nervous system, and the ability to function.

The rising use of amateur and professional athletes utilizing chiropractic care has increased exponentially over the years. Nearly every professional NBA, NFL, and MLB team has on-staff chiropractors to assist in the treatment of the athletic injuries.

Next time you’re plagued with a sports-related injury, contact the team at ADIO Chiropractic in Aurora, Colorado to schedule an evaluation to see if chiropractic treatment is right for you.

History of Chiropractic Care

Daniel David Palmer founded the modern profession of chiropractic in 1895. Palmer theorized that many of the disorders that affect general health are caused by misalignments of the spine, called subluxations, which interfere with the function of the spinal cord and nervous system. Palmer believed that correcting these “subluxations” could normalize the function of the nervous system and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Modern science is now proving this to be true.

What to Expect

A chiropractic office visit begins with a consultation, a complete health history and a thorough examination. The examination consists of the following tests: orthopedic, reflexes, muscular, range of motion, neurological and functional. Objective studies such as x-rays, CT scan, or MRI may be determined necessary after the exam reveals a working diagnosis. If an objective study is necessary, take this recommendation seriously.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Although chiropractic practitioners may use a variety of approaches, they primarily perform adjustments to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting alignment problems and nerve interference to the body. A “chiropractic adjustment” is a controlled, specific movement that moves a joint beyond its passive range of motion placing it in proper functional motion. Similar treatments from other healthcare practitioners are deemed “manipulation”. Manipulation is a gross non-specific type of joint motion. Only chiropractors are trained in spinal and other joint adjustments. They may perform adjustments using only their hands as well as mechanical devices.

Methods of Treatment

Chiropractors will use spinal adjustments as a portal to treating nervous system dysfunctions of the body. They may also incorporate ice, electrical stimulation, spinal traction, spinal decompression, ultrasound, and dietary supplements.

Is Chiropractic Care Right For You?

Chiropractic is a safe, effective health care treatment that can be beneficial for many types of conditions. A chiropractor’s hands on therapies and conservative methods have been proven in all major medical journals to, in some cases, be the best treatment option related to certain diagnoses.
